Lee County’s Transportation Department is the 7th largest in Florida. We serve the district from three zone offices, each of which includes a director and supervisory staff to serve parents and students in their specific geographic area. The Transportation Department of the Lee County School District system transports approximately 59% of the student population in Lee County. Presently, the District has over 700 school buses transporting students to school related activities, such as field trips and intramural activities, in a safe and timely manner, while traveling over 12 million miles each school year. The Department has over 1,000 employees serving the District’s students from five (5) main centers throughout the county. The Transportation Department is working hard to improve safety, improve customer service, and timely pickups and drop-offs of students. In conjunction with the new student assignment plan, the District is working improve routes and reduce student travel time. Beginning with the 2003 – 2004 school year, the Transportation Department established a “special student” transportation services office to better serve students with special needs. The new transportation center on Six Mile Cypress Parkway is across from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. This center will serve both the central and south areas of the county.
